Mayo Heritage facts

• Nephin Mountain: Standing at 806 meters, Nephin is the second-highest peak in Connacht. It is a “standalone” mountain, meaning it is not part of a range. This makes its snow-covered silhouette particularly imposing.

• Lough Conn: This is one of Mayo’s largest lakes, world-famous for brown trout and salmon fishing. It connects to its neighbor, Lough Cullin, at the narrow channel of Pontoon.

• Glacial History: The deep lake basin and Nephin’s rounded shape were carved out by massive glaciers over 10,000 years ago.
